Irish Pub Song Of The Day – Drunken Sailor Accompaniment for Frailing Banjo

Hey, it’s Thursday and Joel Simpson is back! It’s time for accompaniment for frailing banjo for The Irish Pub Song Of The Day. This week, it’s Drunken Sailor and it’s so much fun to play along to with a guitar player.

Hey, think it possible u could break this down just alittle bit more for me? In the vid where u do it alone, without guitar, I thought I picked some additional little hammer or pulls or something u were doing while singing. Also, are u strumming upward sometimes? I dont have tab for this, I heard u mention it in video, would rather try and learn it jsut watching, but cant quite get it yet. Tried adding u on FB, but, for some reason there’s no Request button on your Page..or was I at the wrong one? It says u dont have friends..only ‘Likes’ for that page..perhaps there’s another. I’m in Central WI area, do u guys ever perform around this way anywhere?

Joseph,

Thanks for the questions. In the video, I was just randomly hitting some pull-offs and hammer-ons, I wasn’t playing any melody. The whole motion is all downward. It’s a strike down with the middle finger, a brush across the strings and the thumb striking/rolling off of the 5th string.

You can find me on facebook at http://facebook.com/kelly.griner

We have been in Central Wisconsin a few times, who knows we may be back some time.
