Well folks, it’s been a long, long month. I’ve been working crazy hours jumping from working nights to getting up 4 hours later to open the place up. I am still recovering from the craziness and I hope to be back to making some videos soon. I have been told that everything will be back to normal this week, so let’s keep the positive thoughts going.
I am doing the final editing on Folk Songs For The 5-String Banjo Volume 1 and it should be sent off to the printer by the end of the week. I have been having fun with this book and so far I have been having fun playing the tabs I’ve written. Unfortunately, I haven’t had much time to go over them, but what time I’ve had has been fun!
I think that everyone will have a lot of fun, learning and playing the tabs in this book and if the response is anything like Irish Pub Songs For The 5-String Banjo Volume 1, then it will really help a lot of people.
All I’ve wanted to do is help people play some simple melodies on frailing banjo and this is just another step in the process. I’ve gotten some great emails about the videos I’ve done and I am really happy and proud of everyone that has learned a little bit from me.
Remember that the great thing about frailing banjo is that you can sing a song and play a little bit of melody and it will sound great!
I’ll be back as soon as I can, but until then, just keep playing.
Remember: Play, Love, Learn, Do, Repeat, Repeat, Repeat!!

Tim in Korea was very kind and sent me a video of him performing Lord Of The Dance on frailing banjo and harmonica! He did a fantastic job and this is what it’s all about.
The Chicagoland Acoustic Jam was a great success. The only problem we had was the amount of Whiskey and Beer that was consumed as the night went on. Here is the first hour and I’ll be putting up the some from hours 2 and 3.
Hours 2 and 3 are now online!
Remember this is to play along to and have fun! Start your own jam session and if you can’t join ours live or on tape over the internet here at BanjoMania.net.
It’s now time for the Chicagoland Acoustic Jam. Check out the player below starting at 6 PM Central Time and the Chicagoland Acoustic Jam will begin. You can find the pdf files of the songs we will be performing!
Play along and have fun!
The Chicagoland Acoustic Jam is set to live stream at 6 pm Central Time on Saturday. I have the song list for the jam. This time we are going to stream for longer than an hour. I am not sure how long we will broadcast and we will play it by ear.
We will be playing some of the songs from last month, along with some new ones.
Just grab your instrument and play along. It will be fun and remember the important thing is to just to get the feeling of the songs and learn to play along with others. Have fun!

You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away
Going Down The Road Feeling Bad

The Chicagoland Acoustic Jam will be livestreamed this Saturday at 6:00 PM Central Time in the US.
I will have a link up to view it just before start time. I will have links to PDF files for the songs later tonight.
Last month, we had three jam sessions use ours to play along with and I hope we have the same kind of community fellowship this month.
I’ll have updates later this evening.

I received this video today from Chris Kavanagh in Dublin. It’s an original song called “Paddy’s Day”. I loved the idea that it was filmed on the streets of Dublin. It is also one hell of a song. I might have to add it to my repertoire.
14 February 2011For those of you that missed the last Chicagoland Acoustic Jam, here is the video on YouTube. I hope this wets your appetite for this Saturday when we livestream the February Chicagoland Acoustic Jam.
I’ll be posting updates and details later this week.
Chicagoland Acoustic Jam – January MP3
This is the last Accompaniment Video for a little while. I have decided to try something a little different starting next week and play it by ear.
Play along with your instrument while Joel Simpson and I perform the Folk Song Of The Week, Jesse James.
Jesse [G]James we understand has [C]killed many a [G]man
He robbed the union [D7]trains He [G]stole from the rich
And [C]gave to the [G]poor He’d a [C]hammer and a [D7]heart and a [G]brain
CHORUS:
Now [C]Jesse had a wife lived a [G]lady all her life
And children they were [D7]brave but [G]history does record
It was [C]Bob and Charlie ford have [G]laid Jesse [D7]James in his [G]grave
Well it was on Saturday night the stars were shining bright
They robbed the Glendale train and the people they did say
For many miles away it was those outlaws Frank and Jesse James
Well it was bob and Charlie ford those dirty little cowards
I wonder how they feel for they ate of Jesse’s bread
And they slept in Jesse’s bed and they laid poor Jesse in his grave
Well the people held their breath when they heard of Jesse’s death
They wondered how he came to fall well it was Robert ford in fact
Who shot him in the back while he hung a picture on the wall
Joel Simpson joins me again for the Irish Pub Song Of The Day, Jug of Punch. I love the sound of guitar and frailing banjo together!
Play along and have fun!
One [D]pleasant evening in the month of June,
As [A]I was sitting with my [D]glass and spoon,
A small bird sang on an [G]ivy [Em]bunch,
And the [D]song he sang [A7]was the jug of [D]punch.
[Chorus.
Too[D] ra lu ra loo,too ra [G]lu ra,too ra [A]lu ra loo too ra [D]lur a lay,
A small bird sang on an [G]ivy [Em]bunch,
And the [D]song he sang [A7]was the jug of [D]punch.
What more diversion can a man desire,
To be seated by a snug coal fire,
Upon his knee a pretty wench, and on the table a jug of punch.
If I get drunk, well me money’s me own
And them don’t like it they can leave me alone.
I’ll tune me fiddle and I’ll rosin me bow, and I’ll be welcome wherever I go.
When I am dead and in my grave, no costly tombstone will I have,
Lay me down by my native peat, with a jug of punch at my head and feet.
