July Chicagoland Jam Session and Eric’s Got A New Toy

image

image

I just wanted to send out a quick reminder that July’s Chicagoland Jam Session is Saturday July 17th.

I also wanted to show off Eric Bushman’s new banjo guitar. This thing is loud and we are going to have a blast.

If you are interested in coming just give me a call or send me an email. You can find both on the Contact page.

Something New Soon, I Promise

image

I’ve been getting a slew of emails all on the same subject. To everyone that asked for a tab to a song: It’s coming soon!

I’ve decided to take the week to work on a cool project but I’ll be back on July 4th with something different.

I want to help everyone that has asked for help and those out there that as yet haven’t.

Next week will be a one week course in Folk Banjo. After next week you should have all the tools you will ever need to play Folk Banjo. I’ll go into more detail on Monday.

See you all then,

Kelly

We had a blast once again at our Monthly Chicagoland Jam. We were a small but rowdy gang. We all ended up planning our trip to Henry Reed next year.

New Banjo!!!

While I was at the Henry Reed Memorial Fiddler’s Convention in Glynn Lyn, VA, I received my new banjo.

It was custom made for me by Neil Turner at Buzzard Mountain Banjos.

It is a long-neck banjo with a flat head tone ring. It has no fret markings and rings out loud and proud. I will be putting up more pictures and a video soon.

We’re having fun at Henry Reed and enjoying the friendship and music.

I’ll been updating all weekend!

Irish Pub Song Of The Day – Leaving Of Liverpool Accompaniment for Frailing Banjo

I had fun this time performing the Accompaniment for The Irish Pub Song Of The Day. I got a better set of headphones so I could hear what I had done earlier on guitar instead of guessing my way through the song!

The Leaving Of Liverpool

[G]Farewell to you my [C]own true [G]love,
I am going far,far a[D7]way,
I am [G]bound for Cali[C]forni[G]a,
And I know that I’ll re[D7]turn some [G]day.
[Chorus]
So [D]fare thee well my [C]own true [G]love,
When I return united we will [D7]be,
Its not the [G]leaving of Liverpool that [C]grieves [G]me,
But my darling when I [D7]think of [G]thee.

I have slipped on board a Yankee ship
Davey Crockett is her name,
And her captain it is Burgees,
And they say that she’s a floating hell.

I have sailed with Burgess once before,
And I think I know him well,
If a man’s a salor he will get along,
If not then he’s sure for hell.

Oh the sun is in the harbour love,
And I wish I could remain,
For I know it will be a long, long time,
Before I see you again.
