Folk Song Of The Week – Spider-Man Accompaniment for Frailing Banjo

Joel Simpson joins me once again! This time for the Folk Song of The Week, Spider-Man. If you haven’t already noticed and since I didn’t mention it in the videos. Check out the differences in how I play frailing banjo when I am by myself and when I play with someone. This isn’t something you can really teach and everyone does it differently, but there is a change in when you play frailing banjo unaccompanied and how you play frailing banjo when you are accompanied.

Try it and have fun!

Spider-Man

[D]Spider-man, Spider-man does whatever a spider can

[G]Spins a web, any size, [D]catches thieves, just like flies

[A]Look out! Here comes the [D]Spider-man!

[D]Is he strong? Listen, Bud! He’s got radioactive blood.

[G]Can he swing from a thread? [D]Take a look overhead.

Hey [A]there, there goes the [D]Spider-man!

In the [E]chill of night, at the [B7]scene of the crime

Like a [G]streak of light, he arrives just in [A]time

Spider-man, Spider-man, friendly neighborhood Spider-man

Wealth and fame, he’s ignored, action is his reward

To him, life is a great big bang-up, wherever there’s a hang-up

You’ll find the Spider-man!

Irish Pub Song Of The Day – God Save Ireland – Accompaniment for Frailing Banjo

Joel is back for this edition of the Irish Pub Song Of The Day Accompaniment. We usually do God Save Ireland in another key so it was fun getting Joel to laugh when we started to get into it. As I say in the video, we only do one take and right or wrong you get what you get.

If you are interested in my shameless plug for his new tuner, you can find the Peterson StroboClip at this link.

GOD SAVE IRELAND

High [G]upon the gallows tree swung the [C]noble hearted [G]three

By the vengeful tyrant stricken in their [D7]bloom

But they [G]met them face to face with the [C]courage of their [G]race

And they went with souls [D7]undaunted to their [G]doom.

Chorus:

God save Ireland, said the heroes, [D]God save Ireland said they [D7]all.

Whether [G]on the scaffold high or the [C]battlefield we [G]die,

Oh what matter if for [D7]Ireland dear we [G]fall.

Girt around with cruel foes, still their courage proudly rose,
For they thought of hearts that loved them far and near.
Of the millions true and brave o’er the ocean’s swelling wave
And their friends in holy Ireland ever dear.

Climed they up the rugged stair, rang their voices out in prayer
Them with England’s fatal cord around them cast.
Close beside the gallows tree, kissed like brothers lovingly
True to home and faith and freedom to the last

Never till latest day shall the memory pass away
O the gallant lives thus given for our land
But on the cause must go amid joy or weal or woe
Till we make our Isle a nation free and grand.

Irish Pub Song Of The Day and Folk Song Of The Week – God Save Ireland and Spider-Man – Simple Melody

It’s time for the simple melody for the Irish Pub Song Of The Day and Folk Song Of The Week. God Save Ireland is one of my favorites of all time. Most people love The Wolfe Tones version, but when I saw Terry Murphy in Detroit, MI doing it live, I fell in love with the song. What can I say about Spider-Man? It’s fun and as Stan Lee would say: ‘Nuff said.

Folk Song Of The Week – Spider-Man on Frailing Banjo

This week’s Folk Song Of The Week is Spider-Man. I had to think of something to top Somewhere Over The Rainbow and this seemed to hit the spot.

It is also a great lesson in key of D. Everything except for two places in the song is right out of the chord forms.

Have fun!!!

Irish Pub Song Of The Day – God Save Ireland on Frailing Banjo

This week’s Irish Pub Song Of The Day is a great song, God Save Ireland. This one is a little tricky when it comes to the simple melody. I know that when I show it to you on Wednesday, you’ll get it with just a little practice.

So far it’s been a great day at the Milwaukee Irish Fest.  I brought Amber, her cousin Lisa and boyfriend and we’ve had a great time.  Now is the time that I’ve sent them to have fun while I catch up old friends.  I’ll post more pictures if I remember.

See you all on Monday for the Irish Pub Song Of The Day.

Historic Methodist Campground – Day 2

I decided to upload some videos from Sunday at the Historic Methodist Campground. It was a fun weekend and the whole performance was one of those laid back, no plan, just have some fun, kind of shows that I like.

Since it took two whole days to upload this stuff, I’ll be back on Monday with the Irish Pub Song Of The Day.

Enjoy!

The Historic Methodist Campground

Every year, Joel Simpson and I are asked to perform at the Historic Methodist Campground in Des Plaines, IL. We have a bast every time. This year, we were also asked to do the music for the Church Service on Sunday before our show and we had a great time.

I love performing there because it’s a really nice family atmosphere and everyone is there for a good time. If you ever make it out there, make sure to stop by the baked goods section….delicious.

I’ve put these videos in chronological order. As you can see, it’s very laid back and as the day goes on, I try to get Joel to laugh. I love making up verses on the fly just to see if I can get him to laugh hard enough to stop playing. He didn’t stop this year, so I’ll just have to try harder next year.
