Folk Song Of The Week – Somewhere Over The Rainbow- Accompaniment for Frailing Banjo

It’s Friday and time for Accompaniment for the Folk Song Of The Week. Since I had Joel Simpson over, I had him do this one with me as well. It’s short and sweet and was a lot of fun to do.

I hope you like it.

Irish Pub Song Of The Day – The Liar – Accompaniment for Frailing Banjo

There is nothing like a little emotional blackmail to make something even sweeter 🙂
Joel Simpson was unlucky enough to miss a gig two weeks ago, so I used my “I owe you one” card to get him to accompany me on this song.

I hope you like it and you play along.

THE LIAR

Singin’ [G]right-fol-toor-a-laddie-toor-a-[D7]lee

There is no one who can tell a lie like [G]me

You can [C]search until you’re tired,

you won’t [G]find a bigger [Em]liar

I’ve been [D7]lyin’ since the dawn of histo[G]ry

Now I was born about ten thousand years ago
In Ballmullet in the county of Mayo
It was me that chased the vermin while St. Patrick preached a sermon
And I’ll whoop the man who says it isn’t so (chorus)

I saw Eve go pickin’ apples of a tree
She came over and she offered one to me
Well I turned and said “ Damn Madam, you can try your luck with Adam.”
“I’m going home to have some fish and chips and tea.”

Now I saw Delilah cuttin’ Samson’s hair
She snipped away until his head was bare
When he couldn’t run away, she married him next day
And they opened up a barbershop in Claire (chorus)

Now when Cromwell came to Ireland long ago
He didn’t shed a drop of blood, you know
All the people started grievin’ when they heard that he was leavin’
If I knew a bigger lie, I’d tell ya so (chorus)

It was during World War II I met them all
There was Roosevelt, Churchill, and De Gaul
Then one day I nearly fainted, I was havin’ my house painted
There was Hitler hangin’ paper in my hall (chorus x 2)

Irish Pub Song Of The Day and Folk Song Of The Week – The Liar and Somewhere Over The Rainbow – Simple Melody on Frailing Banjo

It’s time for the Simple Melody for the Irish Pub Song Of The Day and Folk Song Of The Week. The Liar and Somewhere Over The Rainbow have a similar run at the beginning of the song so I had to do them this week. Just remember on Somewhere Over The Rainbow that you will need to use a 3 finger B minor chord. It takes a little while to get it, but I’m sure you will get there in the end.

Folk Song Of The Week – Somewhere Over The Rainbow on Frailing Banjo

The Folk Song Of The Week this week is Somewhere Over The Rainbow. I teased a few people on Facebook that I was thinking about doing the song and got some great “Don’t do it!” “That is awful!” remarks. There is no better way to get me to do a song, then to say it would be horrible.

It’s a lot of fun and I hope you like it, now maybe I’ll finally do “Spiderman” or “The Flintstones”. Oh, yeah!

Irish Pub Song Of The Day – The Liar on Frailing Banjo

Today’s Irish Pub Song Of The Day is one of my favorites of all time, The Liar. For those of you not familiar with the tune, think of “If You’re Happy And You Know It, Clap Your Hands”.

This melody has been use for many, many songs and the most recent Irish Pub Song that uses the melody is “Supergrass.”

Have fun with it and enjoy the song!

I’m Back!!

It’s been too long, but I’m finally back.  Today’s video is done, but I didn’t have time to upload it before I went to work.

That means that you’ll get two for one on Tuesday.  I’ll put up the Irish Pub Song Of The Day and The Folk Song Of The Week tonight.

Have fun working on the songs and I’ll see you tomorrow!

The Terry Murphy Band

For all of you in Michigan, go check out the debut of the Terry Murphy Band.

Terry’s playing style on guitar and Irish Bouzouki was my single biggest influence on how I play banjo.

Terry and the gang will be at my old stomping grounds at Dick O’Dow’s at 160 West Maple Road in Birmingham,  MI.

Stop by on August 7th for a great night of music.  The show starts at 9:30 pm.

…That’s Where You’ll Find Me…

I know that I’ve been a bad poster of videos for the last month or so, but I am exhausted!

Since I’ve gotten back from Henry Reed, I’ve been working 10 and 12 hour days and weekends.

I am hoping that after work this Saturday everything will get back to normal.

I’m glad I’m working and making money, but at the same time, if I wasn’t,  I could produce 10 videos a day and 6 books a year and still have 10 hours in a day to do something.  🙂

Anyway, I should be back on track on Monday and until then I’ll get my rest vicariously through watching Omega sleep on the couch.

Gypsy Rover and Old Plank Road Simple Melody on Frailing Banjo

It only took a week, but YouTube let me finally upload the melody for last week’s Irish Pub Song Of The Day and Folk Song Of The Week. I have also uploaded some small snippets of tablature to help you figure out the melody on these songs. I hope you enjoy.
